Using the Willett Free Library

Getting a Library Card

The Willett Free Library belongs to the Ocean State Libraries statewide public library network. Your OSL library card can be used in over 50 libraries throughout the state of Rhode Island. The card is free of charge to Rhode Island residents.

To apply for an OSL card, bring some identification that shows your current address to the Library and we will get you your library card with the network logo which you can use to borrow materials at any OSL library.  Children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian when applying for a card.

For your protection, report a lost card immediately and do not check out materials on another person's card.

There is a $1.00 fee to replace a lost card.

Loan Periods

Books, periodicals, audio materials and non-fiction videos  -- 3 week loans
Fiction videocassettes and DVDs -- 1 week loans

Overdue Fines

Fines for all materials are 10 cents per day per item with the following exception:
Videocassettes and DVD - $1.00 per day per item

If you have outstanding overdue materials or overdue fines totaling more than $5.00, you will need to return your overdue material and bring your fines under $5.00 in order to continue borrowing.

Renewals

Materials may be renewed if no one else has requested them. You can renew in person, on-line or by phone.  If you call while the library is closed, please leave your name, phone number and titles of the items you wish to renew on our answering machine.

Requests, Holds and Inter-library Loans

Your OSL card gives you access to the collections of all the public libraries in Rhode Island.  You may request any item not on our shelves by registering a hold, also called a request, on the item through the OSL web catalog or the librarian will be happy to place the hold for you. You will be notified by phone when the item comes in. Items can be returned at any OSL library even if they do not belong to, or were not requested from, that branch.

If you are interested in an item that is not available through OSL, please ask the librarian for help.
